hi darryl - hoping you can help me with some general information - i have a gast pump - 24b1 - which i think is 3.5 cfm. have had it for many years and has always worked just fine - until the last press - i could hear the motor click on but it would not spin - did it 3 or 4 times - then finally moved the fins a bit and it did work - of course this is all happening with a press in the bag. wondering if you could tell me some general maintenance things to look at and do - just to make sure all is good inside.
thought i would post this on the forum so others could see it too.

You have a bit of a vane lock, most likely. You need to open the vacuum chamber and sand all the surfaces as well as take out the vanes and sand in the slats with 400 grit sandpaper no oil, just dry

In the same vein, my pump is also old and recently keeps cycling quickly and gets very hot. Not vane lock; it is not a leak in the bag or hose. There is a leak before it gets there.

I would do a test with the pump. Plug in the hose and put your finger over the brass fitting that goes into the bag. See if the pump holds with only the hose hooked up to it. If it holds then you have some form of a flow restriction. If the pump leaks then its either in the back check valve, filter jar or the o ring on the pump end of the hose.
