I want to veneer over solid wood for the sides of a box. I want a solid wood core so that the seasonal expansion matches the adjacent solid woods. The veneer and core wood grain will have the same direction. If I use UF as the veneer glue, will the glue’s stiffness interfere with the seasonal wood movement of the core? Do I need to use a more flexible glue such as PVA?

You can use a UF glue for your project. A box is not that large to have expansion and contraction issues with.
