I took the circular table top out of the bag with two ply on back and two ply mahogany crotch burst top. The table was nice and flat coming out, but in about ten minutes it has warped all around the outside edge to the center. I have clamped the top down to a flat surface hoping it will flatten as the glue finishes off gassing. The table was left in the bag for several days because i had to work on another job. Kind of strange! The table will have a skirt and cross supports for a pedistal base so some warping can be dealt with. Just funny it all warped to the center. It is like the pie shaped crotch pieces are each pulling up at the outside edge but not at the center.

I imagine the crotch has a pull that is not equal to the backer two ply. Also, clamping it to the bench may warp it only that much more as air circulation can only get to one side. Although leaving it in the bag for two day probably had some effect that I cannot guess at.

Could we get a few more details? What is the core, and how thick? What was used for the backer veneer and the face veneer on the underside? Were the two veneers on the underside at right angles to each other? Are all four veneer assemblies using the same thickness veneer? And how many pieces in the mahogany crotch starburst?

Decades ago, I made three 24 piece starbursts using straight red gum on 3/4" plywood and none warped. They are probably 18", 30", and 50" in diameter.

The table is 60"diameter with 8 crotch sections and a 6" round burled walnut center. The veneer under the crotch is African mahogany. The backer is two lairs of African mahogany at right angle grain orientation. The core is 3/4" MDF with a solid wood border.
After clamping for two days, the warp is down to 1/8" overall. I took it out of clamps today and put a small piece of baltic birch in the center and reclamped to flat to allow air underneath the panel. I will see how that looks tomorrow.
