I was in a GAP store years ago looking for one of my favorite over sized blue oxford shirts, next to me was a GAP employee rambling on about how rude customers are. "why do people have to take the stickers of of the clothes and stick them all over the store, if they knew how hard it was to get those off they wouldn't do it, now i gotta go get the machine and take sticker off the wall, floor dressing rooms all day long.
All I heard was "machine", kinda tuned out everything else. So I lingered around to see what machine she was talking about. she went over to the pants section and came back with some strange looking thing, plugged it in flipped the switch. asked what it was , 'OH this? it a clothes steamer, when the clothes get wrinkled we put them on hangers and steam the wrinkles out, it also works great for removing the stupid stickers, if you try to pull them off they just rip , but if you hit them with the steamer they slip right off.
The the little voice kicked in, "what are the odds? what are the odds of that gizmo removing veneer tape in one piece?
Never did get that blue shirt, I did get a fabric steamer from William Sonoma though. Worked like a charm.
you have to pay attention when your doing that procedure with PVA glue, you cant "camp out" with the steamer head, once the tape is loosened keep moving. Steam has no affect with urea.
I guess you can learn a lot from a miserable 18 year old working at the GAP.
