This forum was invaluable for me when I started trying to understand the practice several years ago. The amount of information was overwhelming, but I couldn't find a book that seemed the perfect reference. Several videos were immensely helpful, including the two by Darryl Keil, but I still worried that without a reference I would always struggle to master the basics. I spent a couple weekends going through each and every old post and copying and pasting everything I found helpful. Primary thanks must go to Darryl Keil, since much of the content is his responses to questions. Since then I continued to add to my "Veneering Notes" when I came across additional information.

This morning I updated the copy on my website with the most recent version as a MS Word document, and added a pdf version of the same file. Anyone and everyone that might be interested is welcome to download either version - just please use the email link on the website to forward typos and content errors.

The two versions of the document are I think the fourth and fifth items on the page.

Thanks to everyone for sharing experience and tips and suggestions on the forum.

Hi Don,

If your looking for info on the trade or insight try the old dover publications. while they encompass a lot of other mediums there are chapters in some of the books on veneering and furniture building form the 18th century. also check with the AIA bookstores around the country.

try a book by the Mowat Brothers. while there is little about veneer the the lessons on geometry and curved work are stunning. linden publishing company

also chippendale directors guide by dover addresses veneering .

Darn it, Craig. You knew I wouldn't be able to look at the Dover Publication's "Gentleman and Cabinet Maker Directory" without ordering several other books as well. . .

Any compliments for the compilation should go mainly to Darryl Keil. The majority of the content is his responses, and of course the forum itself is available due to his generosity and support. Some of the content is the contribution of other supporters of the forum.

The section on radial matches I will accept partial credit for. My first attempt took forever and was a huge learning experience. I didn't want to have to repeat the learning process the next time, so I reviewed the prior sources I had found, tried another radial match, and then combined everything.

Thanks again to everyone.
