Hi all,

I wanted to thank Darryl for spending a fair amount of time with me about a week or so ago. Lots of questions were answered. My 60" x 144" table is well on the way to being done. It is made to very strict tolerances. I had intended on cutting grooves in the surface of the laminated 1-1/4" MDF table top, but he strongly suggested that I not do this and use a sheet a plastic (or pieces)with grooves cut in them instead. Well, I'm going to actually tile it with pieces kept apart while gluing by those funky tiling stars you use when laying *real* tile. I will glue them down with a bit of GE Silicone. I'm figuring on about 8-10" squares, however the layout works best; this will allow for the air movement necessary. Doing it like this, I can tile up to where the flange of the bag sits.

I am also a bit of a writer and as I go along, I'm writing about this project complete with pictures. I'll be glad to send the finished version of this paper to anyone who is interested, of course, after the table is finished and operating.

I still have a fair amount of work to do before I can use it and I have a ton of work for it lined up already so I need to get it done! I have had a ball building this table. The planning, building and writing about it has been fun!

Once again, thanks to you Darryl for being so helpful, my finished table will be many times better, for your help!

Cheers

Gary

Gary:

Like so many of the rest of us, you have found that Darryl is very generous with his time and experience.

When you put together your experiences, why not simply post your paper on the table project on your web site, with a link posted here on the forum? That will save you from answering what may be numerous requests for a copy. Just a suggestion.

I agree with Don. I would also love to see a press of that size, along with your progress photos, etc.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi all,

Thanks for replying to my post. Yes, Darryl was very helpful and has probably saved me from ruining a $400 top by not cutting grooves in it.

I will be glad to post the paper when it's done. It will have lots of pictures. I'm sure there might be better ways of doing what I'm doing, but, as I've said before, I belive and doing it once and doing it right. I always prefer to over build.

I will probably try to post the essay in PDF so it downloads the same for everyone. I'll do more research into it.

Thanks

Gary

Well, the first part of the "paper" is done and will be installed on my site in a few days, I just need to convert it to PDF and download. I will post the link to it here on this site. The table will be set up by end of week, then tiled with plastic. After that, I can give Darryl a final size so he can make the bag and flange system. I'm very much looking forward to getting this job done and running...work seems to be piling up in anticipation!

To those who are interested, stay tuned!

Cheers,

Gary

Greetings, Vacuum People,

Part one of my vacuum table project paper is pretty much done and converted to PDF. The pictures are less than the quality I would want (most were near 1 mg in size originally) but none the less, I will try to attach the file here. I don't have access to posting a link on my site (I'm away for the weekend) so anyway... I have given the reasons and background of why I've chose the methods I chose. I welcome all comments.

Thanks

Gary

Oh, I see I cannot attach this file, it's over 50k. Until I get it posted, any who would like the paper sent, send an email with "Vacuum" as the topic, and I'll send it to you...

Greetings all,

Well, the parts have arrived from the fine folks at Vacupress. I'm impressed, very impressed. The fliptop framing has been cut to size, perfectly...and I mean perfectly. I've not unrolled the membrane yet, but will over the weekend. The total air pump system looks nice, very well made and designed. I'm very much looking forward to getting this all up and running over the next week or so.

I'm also taking more pictures :*)

Cheers
Gary
