Well I got my Fein Multimaster and it works great for cutting veneer. Two passes and boom a nice straight cut.
My question is- What do y'all use for a cutting base or platform? I am now using a melamine coated 3/4" plywood but I was wondering if there is someting better? I heard there is a self healing mat that some use ??

Thanks
Dave

Dave,

The self healing mat you are talking about is used in conjunction with a razor knife. I doubt the sawing action of the Multimaster would work on this product and have it self heal.

Darryl, Richard

In the past, I have always used a router to trim up and provide clean edges before taping. How does the Multimaster compare? Do you use one over the other now? Any more info you can provide regarding the use the Multimaster for edging veneer would be a great help.

Thanks in advance,

I've noticed a few posts about this jig and would be interested in seeing the pics discussed. If anyone has them can you send them to bbortz@yahoo.com

thanks,

brian

Hi, Dave,

The Fein Multi Master is the magic bullet that has solved all of my veneer jointing woes since I read a post on this forum some months ago. I built a jig that carries the Multi Master on a plexiglas base in the manner of a circular saw. I am able to track a straight edge with this, and it cuts veneer beautifully. I use a base I made using mdf with a saw kerf that gives clearance to the oscillating blade. I made a straightedge/holddown by doing a bent lamination in 1/4 masonite x 4, across a very long radius. With the curve pressing down on the veneer, the veneer is held securely with no clamps in the way. I run my multi-master saw down its 8 ft. edge, and my veneer is ready to tape. I wish I could describe this more clearly. It will solve the problem that so many of us have struggled with for so long. Play around with this tool. It will do the job.

I am very interested in more information on how you use the Fein for trimming veneer. I will read and re-read your post but if there is any chance that you can provide a picture, that would be great!

I just recently took some pictures of my veneer jointer that uses the multi-master. I plan to post them here in the next few days. My jig works very well, but it still can stand some improvement. The multi-master cuts veneer beautifully. What might be improved is my straight line jig. I'm putting this out there so other people might throw in their ideas, and there will be a once and for all solution to the problem of jointing veneer. I will e-mail pix if you'll send me your address. richardbrewer1@yahoo.com

While I have emailed teice, I haven't seen any photos yet. I am still hoping to see what you have down with the Multimaster.
