Subject : Cracks and Dyed Veneers

I have ended in to a problem after buying a 8' x 4' panel of dyed birds eye maple veneer.the problem is that cracks have started develping after few days of pasting it on thefurniture. The panel was okay until I had purchased.Is the problem related to the veneer or related to glue used for the hot pressing orsome other problem?Will somebody put some light on this problem?Best regardsBharat ShethIndia

Dear Bharat Sheth,A couple of questions first. What kind of glue did you use, was the veneer backed, and if itwas, with what? I am assuming this was done in a hot press from what you said. Possibly theveneer was not fully dry when you pressed it. Also, did you buy the panel all done or did youby the veneer and then have it pressed? Dear Bharat Sheth:I was refininshing my son's closet door to match the provincial-stained wood floor and baseboards. In sanding it down to get rid of pencil marks and small scratches, I accidentally sanded through the layer of glue to the board underneath. Actually the darker board underneath doesn't look TOO obvious, but the white glue surrounding it does. I thought staining it would minimize the effect but the glue won't take up the stain. Help! Am I going to have to buy a whole new door, or is there a way to disguise my overenthusiastic sanding mistake?Thank you.
