After veneering both sides of 1/4" Baltic Birch it warped slightly.
Is this expected and what is a good way to flatten it.
The panel is to be used in a door frame and would fight the door's finished flatness.
Comments welcomed. Thanks.

No, I wouldn't consider this "normal."

What was glued to each side (species, how thick, raw or two ply), with what adhesive? How much did the panel warp, what is the width and thickness of the door frame members? How long was the panel clamped, and was it then leaned against a table leg or similar so that both sides were exposed equally to the air?

Kind of all depends on what “slightly” means. Baltic birch is not the most stable plywood in my experience, especially at 1/4”. I think a little warpage can be normal. Try laying it on your bench with the bowed side up and put a weight in the middle. Leave it like that for a couple days and see if that helps.

To answer Don, the panel is about 12" x 24", Unibond one, in press for 6 hrs, using 0.024" beech. It did rest face down in a bench top overnight after pressing (probable cause). Warp is maybe 1/4" over 24 inches. Door frame to be 3/4" x 2" wide.

Darryl, I planned to clamp it hoping for flatness. Would moisture in some application help?

Leaving a just glued up, panel flat on a bench or table top will almost always result in a warped panel, even in 3/4". I always sticker mine, top and bottom, and cover the top with other sheet goods to keep flat. Oh, and 1/4" over 24" is nothing to be concerned about in a 1/4" panel that's captured in a frame, unless, you're unable to press flat with your hand with slight or little pressure. A lot of the 1/4" ply layups can warp under the absolute best conditions.

Earl, you’re absolutely right about a panel warping left laying on a bench. My idea, since the panel is already warped, was to put the concave side down on the bench and see if the up, convex side, might “concave” a bit since that side will be getting the air circulation to it. May not work though since I assume the panel is all dried out.

Yes.... introducing moisture will flatten the panel but do not apply water or a wet rag to the panel itself. Instead elevate the panel about 6 inches and fill a cookie sheet with about an 1/8th inch of water and slide it under the panel. Crown side down . This also works with full size panels as well. Put the panel across two saw horses and using a mop , slop some water from the mop on the floor. If your floor is not concrete the put down plastic sheet.

And like the rest have pointed out, Baltic birch is not the best substrate to use. MDF would be the more appropriate choice.. did you lay the grain of the face veneer in the same direction as the grain on the Baltic birch?. If so , that’s a guaranteed failure.
