Hello!
I am making cross-banded, 2 ply face veneer for a 20" diameter curved cabinet. I plan to vacuum press the 2 ply on a flat platen, clean it up, then put it back into the bag to press it on the curved substrate and bending form.
Is Unibond One ok to use for both pressings? Also, how quickly after flat vacuum pressing the 2 ply do I need to get it back into the bag for the curved pressing? Will the unibond One get too brittle if I wait too long?
thanks for the help!!

What are the two veneers you're using in this two ply.

The cabinet is a yin/yang design. The 2 ply on one hemisphere is figured Movingue (both layers) and the other side is figured Etimoi (both layers)..
thanks!!

I am not familiar with those veneers but as long as they are not overly oily the Unibond One will work fine. You don't need to worry about how long you wait before putting your two ply onto your panel. If it was me I would probably do it the next day but longer is fine. Just remember to keep it weighted under a sheet of plywood or something when you take it out of the press otherwise the two ply will warp laying around on it own.

Not an expert, but I expect Unibond 1 is not quite as rigid when cured as the original Unibond, so there may be some springback when you remove the veneered substrate from the vacuum bag. Can your design accommodate some springback or does the veneered substrate need to match closely the bending form/

don…
The substrate has already been glued up with unibond 800. My question was only about cross banding the face veneer. Darryl's response was great…if you have any additional comments, I am wide open to suggestions.
cheers, mark
