Subject : 60" x 90" piece- two piece bottom platen

If pressing an oversize flat piece with Evacunet on top, the lower platen has to be made up of two pieces- can they be placed loose beside each other or do they have to be rigidly joined as one piece?
I wasn't sure if the vacuuming process would deflect the two piece platen unless it was one solid piece... Thanks

Please forgive my not understanding the situation. You have access to material that an make a substrate 60" x 90" but cannot make a one piece bottom platen that size? And why does the bottom platen have to be two pieces?

60 x 90 is the size of the object to be vacuum pressed- a 4x8 sheet of melamine for a platen is 12" too narrow to fit under an object to be vacuum pressed that is 60" wide, hence platen has to be made of two pieces.

Melamine is wonderful but platen can be 5 x 10 x 3/4 mdf sprayed with finish to be non stick

I believe melamine can be purchased in 5x8 or 5x10. Check with your melamine suppliers.

They can be loose but I would put a few biscuits in to line things up and hold the platen's roughly together
