Subject : Will Unibond stick to Epoxy?

I'm veneering over an existing panel that was damaged.

Maybe I should have though of this beforehand, but I filled in some of the damage with epoxy.

Now I need to veneer over this panel that has an epoxy patch on the surface.

Will Unibond stick to the epoxy patch? Wood glue? Plastic Resin?

I could use epoxy as the veneer adhesive (I know for sure that epoxy sticks to epoxy), but I'm not always a fan of how it bleeds out into veneer, creating spots, and also I need this to match the rest of the piece, which has already been veneered with Unibond.

Thoughts?

I sympathize with using epoxy to glue up your panel due to the mess and bleed through but Unibond 800 will not stick very well to it. In the future try Durhams Rock Hard wood putty as a filler. Unibond 800 sticks well to that.

Sounds like the conservative approach would be to sand out the epoxy. On Darryl's recommendation many years ago I've used Durham's many times, although for scratches and cracks rather than larger areas, with no known problems covering with veneer.

Thanks guys. After sanding, the patch was very small, so I went ahead with unibond.

If the patch creates a flaw, I figure that I'll slit the veneer and inject some epoxy into the slit with a syringe for a spot-fix.

If you need to re-glue the spot, I would use super glue in a hypodermic needle.
