Can I use my automotive sharpe 970 spray gun to apply a clear or satin finish over mahoghany veneer? I wanted to just do a teak oil finish, but heard that an oil finish might have issues later. Does anyone have a suggestion for the brand of satin or clear to use. Varathane has never really worked good for me on other woodwork. If not able to use my sharpe 970 sprayer, what would be a good sprayer to purchase?

For water borne finishes I use General Finishes, although I have not sprayed in some time. They work with many HVLP and turbine systems, with the proper needle/nozzle kits. I've never heard of a Sharpe sprayer. You might pose the question on the forum at Homestead Finishing Products.

Apologies for a poor response. Yes, General Finishes is a manufacturer of water borne products including finishes. Homestead Finishing carries many if not all of their products.

Thank you for clarifying to a newbee to veneer work without any discontent. This website is informative and very good for all levels of skills I'm noticing. I should fit in. Was on other forums where I felt incompetent after recieving replies. Thanks again. Much appreciatte your info.

I see in General finishes Brands there are severl types such as Endura-var water based urethane , endura-var water based laquer, and a endura-var high performance polyurethane, can you suggest a good one for birdseye maple, Makore, or Figured mohaghany? I want to use HVLP spray gun to apply.
