Subject : Total Air System not working very well

Greetings all!

I've been having a problem with my total air system not working very well. it will pump down to 25"hg OK but it takes a REALLY long time. I did clean the filter by compressed air and, well it looked not too bad only some dust in each of the folds of the pleats. I'm wondering if perhaps the pump unit needs to be taken apart and REALLY cleaned inside? Any ideas?

I've been very happy with the way this unit has been working. The "bag" is still tight, the pump cycles on around every 2 hours...so it's VERY tight, and when you consider it is 12' x 5' in size.

Any ideas to what might be wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Gary

Gary, Unless the hose or filter jar is clogged somewhere, slow evacuation rate is caused by not enough PSI from your compressor. Have you checked to be sure you are getting at least 95psi at the vacuum pump? When you have a clogged venturi, (the vacuum generator inside your unit) what you get is the inability of the pump to reach full vacuum. This does not sound like your issue.

If you dont find anything that fixes the problem, give me a call as a phone conversation is better when hunting down an issue.

Plug the end of the hose at the bag and see how long is needed to reach 25 psi to eliminate any slow air discharge in the bag itself. Darryl had a great quiz one time about I think MDF platen that very slowly gave up internal air.

Well, guys, I feel like a total idot... The unit is working perfectly...there is no clogging or anything. What was wrong was the way we were putting the bag frame down on the table...we were "capturing" too much air and it was just taking a long time to pull it down...like 6+ minutes vs. 1.5 minutes when steps are taken to not trap so much air. There is nothing wrong with the situation that a dope slap to me won't cure...

I still count myself lucky as everything is tight as a drum, even with a 5 x 12' area, it fires off perhaps every 2.5 hours or so and the pump is only "on" for maybe 3-5 seconds!

Thanks for all your help and input!

Gary

Well, I find the air comes out of the "material" whether it be plywood or laminated up solid wood. It will cycle on 3-5 times every few minutes then it goes for the 2 hour stretch.

I felt like such an idiot when we performed a simple test. It is fine now and working wonderfully.
