A while back Darryl helped me out with a frozen up pump and then gave me advice when it wouldn't shut off. The same thing happened a few weeks ago and I did the same thing. Took the pump apart and lightly sanded the disc, the disc is a little pitted in the spot that was frozen. I put it back together and ran it without load for an hour and it still won't shut off by itself. Also the gauge says it won't go past 15lbs. The bag still seems to draw down as much as ever and holds pressure and the panels are coming out good.
Unfortunately its a Mercury which is out of business so parts may not be available. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

I had a conversation over the phone with William after he made this post but for those on this forum I will cover what I said.

If a pump does not have any significant leaks to account for the low vacuum then the problem with a rotary vane pump is usually one of two things. One or more of the 4 vanes can be stuck, retracted up into its slot which mean the pump cannot pull full vacuum. If all the vanes are loose and free then it means they are most likely worn down to the point where the tolerances are too loose to achieve full vacuum.

This is my 1st time on the forum, so I am not sure if this should be a new thread or a reply to what seems to be the closest issue to my problem. I have a Total Air venturi type auto cyling system. In auto cyling mode, disconnected from the bag & with my finger over the vacumn hose; the pump reaches whatever HG I have it set for, for instance 25 HG (it has a max. of approx. 27/28). It does shut off, but the needle on the pressure gauge immediately drops to 5HG & the pump kicks back on, shuts off at 6HG, and just cycles off & on repeatedly between 5 & 6 ad nauseum. Can you tell me what the problem is and what I have to do to fix it? (The intake filter is clean and tight)

Ron,

Although pump problems are usually something simple, diagnosing the issue really requires a phone conversation to get to the bottom of it. Emailing and forums rarely give a complete enough picture. You most likely have a leak but something else is going on as well.

Give us a call 207-725-0934

Thanks for the reply Daryl. I have found some issues and resolved them. I acquired the unit used and it has been sitting for awhile. I have the pump working well enough now that I will call you in the next few days to order a polyurethane bag to replace the much patched vinyl one that came with it.
