Well after many many months of leaning against a wall I finally decided to finish my doors (hardware is on its way too). Since you all helped, I thought I would share a pic of the final door before mounting to see what you think. The rail/stiles are Stave core.

This door is actually one of my poorer panels (four of the ten doors are done). I didnt quite follow Craig's suggestions close enough and I wound up with a few bubbles to fix.

Brad,
I've been wanting to see your final product. I love the "eye" in the middle of the top panel. I'm going to post a question about makore, as I don't want to hijack your post.

stave core material is multiple pieces of secondary wood glued up on edge to make a blank. usually #1 common white pine 2foot by 8 foot blanks two inches thick. instead of using solid wood for the door rails which could in some cases warp you would use stave core material. each face has a 1/4 inch piece of would glued to it and the edges as well to replicate a solid piece of wood.
