Anyone have experience with this product as a core for 3/4" thick slab doors? It has been recommended to me, but I have not yet used it.

Dave,

I am not familiar with the Norboard product you are mentioning. I looked it up briefly and its seems to just be a brand of MDF. Do you know if there is something special about it?

It is a 3/4" 'sandwich', with outer layers of 1/4" MDF, and a core of three plys of basswood (or poplar). It has been recommended to me by someone with alot of veneering experience, for flat panel or 'slab' doors, as being very stable. The advantage of the ply core is for screw holding. I have only the one referral at this time.

Dave,

Oooh, that sounds nice. There was a similar product called Armorcore I used years ago that was very hard to get. I love it and then I couldn't get it anymore.

If you can get your hands on some of this product I would definitely give it a try.

Darryl

FX Platform is readily available from Maine Coast Lumber Co. If I get this particular job, and use the FX, I'll tell you all about it!

Have used the ArmorCore quite a bit and it is available at Hood Distribution, a national company, but not sure if they are in Maine. Nice and flat, stable, but heavy and not as stiff as VC plywood.
