don,

the answer is yes. you can re-activate the glue with heat. I assume this is pva glue?

If the piece in question is removable it should be a breeze. The bad news is you will most likely have to refinish the piece.
using a standard iron set on cotton(not wool) and you will have to moisten the area with a wet rag. the steam generated from the moisture will penetrate the finish and veneer and soften up the glue. keep the iron moving as you don't want to burn the veneer.

this bubble you speak of may also be from no glue at all on the spot that bubbled, it wouldn't hurt to inject a little glue in the area to be on the safe side.

I've saved a few very expensive projects from the "toilet" with a simple iron and wet rag. however these were discovered before a finish was applied.

good luck...

How thick is wood-on-wood (WOW) veneer? The heat/steam is going to have to penetrate both the applied finish and the WOW to reach the glue.

If that option is not desirable, you always could try injecting cyanoacrylate and pressing flat as best possible until the glue cures, but there will be a hole from the syringe, this may not work well on a large bubble, and may not work well on a vertical surface.

I used Titebond extend on one project and swear I'll never use it again. I got to reglue a lot of spots on that one. And I've left a few that aren't very noticable. Want a free gallon of glue?

Before resigning myself to refinishing due to a hot iron, I'd try to glue the bubbles with CA glue. Or even some more pva if the bubbles are large enough. Since the time frame dates from nearly a year ago, the iron may not work anyway. Inject the CA glue with a syringe or even slit it open first and inject. Mash the bubble flat with a wood block covered with wax paper. First spray the paper with CA accelerator. Work fast with the block because if it all goes well, the glue will set very rapidly. Any squeeze out of the glue will blend nicely with the lacquer finish.

Don,

The question I would ask before attempting the repair, would be, is the bubble between the Wood on Wood veneer and substrate or in the layers of WOW itself? Do you know which it is?
