Hey Darryl...

I know that a while back some of us inquired about the possibility of you putting out the authoritative book on veneering. Just curious if there has been any happenings there.

I'll restate my thoughts - there really are not any good books on veneering. The best ones are more than ten years old, and they don't cover vacuum pressing well. With all the progress in adhesives in the last 5 or so years, nothing has been covered in any book at all in those regards.

I guess my point here is that there certainly is a need in the market, and a good book would probably sell well, even to a pretty selective audience...granted that not every woodworker veneers, but there certainly would be enough for a good book to do well. Not every woodworker turns, but Taunton has certainly flooded the market with turning books...

In the meantime, the best existing print reference is still this forum and it's achives. If you ever decide to wipe the board and get rid of some old posts, make sure to give us warning...I'll be buying plenty of reams of paper to print with!

Take care,

bg

Forgot to mention...

If there are no plans for a book, I know a while back you mentioned the possibility of putting out a third video covering more advanced techniques...anything you can share there?

Thanks,

bg

Brian,

I know what you mean about the lack of a thorough and current veneer book. I have considered it but unfortunately I am not much for extensive writing, much more for visuals which is why I did videos instead.

As far as more videos, I am starting to script a new DVD on doing a radial match with a short grain border. I'm sure your pretty accomplished with radials so this one probably wouldn't benefit you much, but there isn't any good detailed instruction on this subject.

After this one I want to do a project DVD on a demilune table where the top, apron and detailing on the legs is covered. This one would be awhile before I get started.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil

Darryl your videos are great. We have actually used them to sell parts of our projects. They help the client understand how things are built. I have had three customers at the same time looking at these togather and they are amazed and think this is so high teck. Great stuff, thanks.

You remind me that I used to do this regularly. The first time I had a customer in the shop the vacuum press was out and it was practically the only thing they wanted to see. They were so fascinated by the vacuum press they didn't even look at what I was building. I could tell by the look on the guys face that he thought I must be good since I was using such cool technology. After that I always had the vacuum press out when potential customers came by.

Funny that a plastic bag and a vacuum pump regularly sealed the deal, so to speak. I highly recommend the technique.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil
