I have a section of a green Madrone burl that I want to cut into 1/8" thick veneers and do something to accelerate drying. Has anyone tried to use a microwave oven to do this?

I do it often with dowels and biscuts that have swollen from moisture. Don't cook the wood! just 30 to 45 seconds at a time then let the moisture evaporate than do it again.

Thanks, Nateman. Any ideas about how many dryings would be required? Not an exact number, but an approximation. Are we talking 5 times? Fifty? A hundred? I'm asking because I don't have a clue.

No experience, but it would seem that green veneer 1/8" thick would dry rather quickly. I would slice off a piece and treat it like buckled veneer that has been wetted with flattening solution. The steps for treating and drying have been given a number of times in the forum. Try a search on flattening solution.

I gotta agree with Don here.

It shouldn't take veneer that is 1/8" thick very long to dry, even without any aid from the microwave...I would guess that it will dry within 2-3 days in a controlled non-humid environment, but I would probably give it a week to make sure.

If you have a moisture meter, that will tell you where you are.

Wow, that fast. I'll cut a few, take them into the house, and see what happens. I really thought it would take a lot longer to air dry.
