I use the 9" wide hopper spreader for applying
the titebond original "extend that I am happy with.
I have 20 or so glue ups this week and my question is, what have folks come up with to leave the glue in the hopper for 8, 24, or longer hours?
Up until now I clean it scrupulously after 8 hours. I usually cover it with a plastic bag. The only other thought I had was to build a relatively air tight box to put it in & then spray one of those inert gases, (they sell for cans of varnish) with the idea it that would keep the glue overnight.

Not that I'm endorsing anything else other than the hopper storage unit....

You could simply take a 5 gallon bucket, fill it half way with water, pour the extra glue back in the bottle, (but dont clean it out) then submerge the glue spreader in the bucket until your ready to use it again. When I'm ready to use it I take it out of the water and let it drip over a trash can for a minute, just to get the excess water off and the fill with glue again.

thanks Darryl & Craig,
I have made a lid for the hopper.
Then after I spread my glue, I put it on the stand immersed in about 3" of water, just short of the hopper. When I am ready to roll I let it drip dry for a few seconds & then roll out dry on newspaper, and I'm ready to spread glue again.
At the end of the day I am doing as you suggested Darryl. The next morning, it takes less than a minute to clean thoroughly.
cheers
Mike

Mike,

Sounds like you came up with a good solution. I also remember that I use a wash cloth cut to wrap around the rubber roller and soak it good for short breaks.
