Subject : Pump recycles every 30 sec.

I just purchased a relatively new but little used Standard/Pro(blue) press and two bags. After loading the bag and starting the unit it reaches 25 Hg quickly, shuts down for 30 to 45 seconds and starts up again raising the Hg to 25. Looses pressure quickly, and restarts again. This continues at 30 to 45 sec. intervals. If I turn the unit off, with the bag still connected , the needle drops all the way to zero. I have checked for leaks, air flow problems with both bags without success. I am new at this. Is this a bag or machine problem? How long should I expect before the unit recycles? 5 minutes, 10 minutes? Any suggestions for a solution.

Joseph,

The pump should definitely stay off much longer that 30 seconds. A brand new bag can sometimes allow the pump to stay off for over an hour. First, disconnect the hose from the bag, put your finger over the brass fitting and turn on the pump. Does it hold good vacuum? The needle should pretty much just sit there. If it drops down rapidly then the leak is in the pump somewhere and you should call us. If it holds, then the issue is with the bag.

Check the seams of the bag carefully. If its a vinyl bag, depending on use they can tear along the inside edge of the heat weld. If its a polyurethane bag then this is not an issue. Seams never fail on polyurethane.

Darryl

Thanks for the help. After going through the procedures you suggested I determined it was the bag, a leak at the bag nipple. Ordered a Nipple repair kit. Thanks again.

I had the same conceern, I found the leak in the bag, which was quite small making it hard to find, by covering the pressing platten with brown paper, and sucking it down. I then went over the bag slowly with a extreamly wet towel. I then looked for and found a water stain on the paper. fixed the leak with a piece of plastic tape..

I have to say that this is a good idea (the brown paper in the bag). I have had a fear that my bag may leak some day, at least now I have a starting plan. Thanks!
