I have been asked to build a 60” x 72” table top with a straight grained, unbroken surface. I have a fair amount of experience with all sorts of veneering projects, but the dimensions on this one have me a bit stumped. Does anybody have any ideas on:
1. Where I can find a material that will make a suitable one piece substrate?
2. If I can’t find a one piece substrate, what is the best way to fabricate one using conventional 4 x 8 materials?
3. How can I glue the veneer to the substrate other than buying a new bag or press? I know Oakwood Veneer sells 5’ wide sheets of their paper backed and/or Bubble Free Veneer. Has anyone had any experience using contact cement with these prefabricated veneer sheets on this scale?

How thick do you desire the top to be, what shape, what will the edges be like, how will the top be supported as part of the table.

I've edge glued two pieces of MDF before using splines or biscuits, but I wouldn't consider it a strong edge joint.

DSI has several locations around the country, and I believe they sell 5' x 10' 3/4" MDF. Other suppliers to kitchen cabinet fabricators likely will as well.

The shape is rectangular. The edges are will be square and 2 1/2” high but the top will not 2 ½” for the whole length and width - ¾ to 1” would be best. It will be supported by 4 large legs at the corners with aprons between the legs.

You might consider somewhat thicker than typical aprons, with cross cleats to help support the middle of the top.
Cabinet supply distributor should have 5' wide MDF, maybe ply.

If you want to do this without using a vacuum bag or some mechanical press then the only veneer I would consider using with contact cement is plastic laminate backed veneer. If you get this product then it doesn't matter of your top is in one piece. Laminate backed veneer can span seams in your substrate.
