Subject : standard vs professional panel systems and other misc questions

I feel a little odd asking this question as it seems like it would have been covered at some point, or I just missed it somehow. I searched the forum but the results came up empty. I am using a 36x54 bag now with a really small pump. I have had it for a few years. The bag is a 20 mil vinyl bag. I am really outgrowing it and looking for a new system. I would like a 48x96 bag. I do not know how much of a difference there is between the 20 mil poly bag or the 30 mil poly bag.

My main question, though, is what is the difference between a standard and a professional system? I don't do a tremendous amount of veneering, but will probably start doing more. Additionally I have been using PVA glue almost exclusively, but would to get a more rigid glue line. I did read the adhesive thread where Daryl compared titebond brands. Going to a urea resin leaves me concerned about odors in my basement shop.

Thanks for any input.

I was told that you buy a vinyl bag for a few years, and a poly bag for life. I will suggest if you think you might want to put hollow forms, boxes, and such in the bag, get the poly. With a thicker object in the bag, wrinkles like to run out to the edge, and they can quickly pull apart a vinyl seam.
I don't notice unpleasant odors using urea formaldehyde glue.
Just my two cents.

The difference between the standard and professional system is about the bag it comes with, the pump is the same either way. Standard system comes with a vinyl bag and the Professional system comes with a polyurethane bag. If you are going to step up to polyurethane, an extremely durable material, I strongly suggest 30mil. There is really no point for 20mil in this material.

Thanks Darryl (and Don). Exactly the answer I was looking for. I suspect the 30 mil professional system is the one I'm after. Darryl, any comment on using the Unibond 800 in a basement shop?

Seth,

I think the question I would ask myself in your situation is frequency and quantity. If I was gluing up a panel or two every so often I'd be fine using Unibond in a basement shop. If I was gluing up lots of panels on a regular basis then I would want a good exhaust fan in a basement window during glue up. When I took them out of the bag I would put them out on the porch or in a garage to air out for a half a day.
