I am making a pedestal that is parabolic in shape, with finished outside dimensions of 13" x 15" I can only get the 5/16" thick version of bendy ply. I was originally thinking 2 = 5/8" of those, but now wondering if I need 3 plys for a total of 15/16". The open end will be atatched with a flat piece. I am going to glue the show veener on poly & then glue that to the parabola over my form. the radius on the parabloa for about a 3" length is approx. 4". Then it increases dramatically.
My question is will it bend to that small of a radius for that short little bit, & should I go with a 2 or 3 ply.
Also, do I need permanent end caps & maybe one in the center?

Judging by my own experiences, I don't think you'll get 5/16" rubber ply to bend to that tight of a radius - it'll just break. You'll need to get the 3/16" rubber ply, or the Italian bending poplar. Where I am, the thinner rubber ply is more readily available than the thicker; the thicker I now have to ship in from Seattle to Vancouver.

It's just for a short distance, what about a few kerfs?

You can try that Mike, but I suspect it'll still break. The only difference between the 5/16" & 1/8" rubber ply is the thickness of the luan on each side of the veneer in the middle, and I don't think the thicker luan that comprises the 5/16" will survive the bend, even if you do kerf the other side. And even if it did, I suspect it would be very uneven and irregular. But it would be easy to try if you have a piece of scrap laying around. Have you tried sourcing any other thin sheet goods? There is a meranti plywood (cheap 3 ply mahogany) available here that is only about 3/32" thick that would probably bend to that radius, and it's very inexpensive (compared to rubber ply and especially to Italian bending poplar). It's a bit rough (although not nearly as rough as rubber ply) and so would probably need to be 2-plied to prevent the grain and seams and patches from telegraphing through.

Well the first lsg is out & all is well. I did it on my parabolic form approx 14 x 12 with the tight radius as I said around 3". I glued and screwed it down every inch at the tight part & nailed the rest. I'm using the titebond original extend. Just 2 layers of the ply.
