I came across this company that makes large conference tables... Nice work.. As I read about the pieces they say it's all solid wood.. Do they know something I do not.. They have many types of inlays going across grain... some tables appear to have mitered end pieces that would also go cross grain.. What do you think ??

from the grain configuration is does look like solid wood. and even with all the inlays and mitered corners it still may be solid wood, even if someone is brazen enough do defy every law know to woodworkers.

some people do things that defy all logic just to say they did. we'll put this one under "How'd they do that"

Send the company an email question, and pass along their response.

Two things, One The wood could be stabalized with PEG polyethelene glycol, which bowl turners have used for green wood. It replaces the water in the cells. The other would be epoxy impregnated wood under pressure. I have heard this used for wind insturments. Both seem like a lot of trouble, but maybe like anything once you set up for it...
