I have an arch to make which will require glueing blocks of walnut end grain to end grain. I could use epoxy but to messy. I was thinking of using Unibond. Any special procedures? Problems?

Thanks, Dan

Were you planning to include any dowels, biscuits, dominos, splines, ... in the joint, or just flat end grain to flat end grain? Is the arch going to bear any weight or other stress? What will be the size of the components, and will there be a single end grain to end grain joint at the middle of the arch, or several? Thanks.

It is a decorate arch on a tall case clock. No weigth or stress. I will be milling a large cove in it so no dowels or splines.

Dan,

I had some of the questions that Don asked, so now I have a clearer picture.

I would make sure you have a good coarse sand on the parts that will be in contact with the Unibond. Also coat both surfaces with glue.

That should do it as far as gluing goes.

I do have one concern about the end grain glue joint holding up under being run over what I assume are large knives to make the molding. Just a butt joint is not that strong.

Thanks Darryl, I will be making several light passes when milling.
