OOPS! Hit the enter key instead of the tab! Anyway can I dye my own veneer with good result, And can someone describe how? I want to experiment with marquetry and need some green veneer, but the sellers seem real proud of thiers.

Greg,
Before jumping into dying veneer you might want to look at B&B Rare Woods. They have a good selection of dyed veneers that they can sell in small quantities.

There's some helpful threads here on the forum which already address your question...

Here's one...

Back then, I was successful dying my own veneer.

However, I'll be honest with you, I don't bother anymore, unless it's black. And even then, sometimes I'll buy black.

It's a lot of hassle, and for marquetry, it's worth it to me to just buy the pre-dyed stuff.

Usually, I'm only using a small sheet of dyed veneer for marquetry.

If you are looking for green, I would recommend buying it from Paul Schurch.

http://www.schurchwoodwork.com/tools/index.html

He offers green veneer in three shades. Yes, it's expensive, but I can't replicate the nice shades of green that he gets on my own.

I don't want to discourage you from dying your own. It's real easy to do black because you aren't going for a real specific shade.

However, when I tried to make green veneer, I had trouble getting the shades that I was after.

Not that it can't be done, but for the money, and considering that I usually am not going to need much veneer to do some marquetry leaves, I just buy it.

If you decide to dye your own, report back. If you are successful in getting nice shades, I'd love to hear your methods.

Thanks guys. I went to B & B and ordered a dyed pack of veneers. $20 for 17 colors of veneer 4" x 5" free shipping. I see what happens when it arrives
