Subject : Using Unibond First Time - Minor Issue

I just tried a couple of cherry veneer samples using the unibond with the hardener and blocker. I rolled the glue on lightly and evenly, no gooping or visual glue puddles. I applied to both MDF surface and veneer the same way.

Problem:
Either the veneer is not staying down or glue is no spreading out when under pressure. When I run my hands over the veneer it feels wavy. I tried rolling them out but it keeps coming back.

Any ideas?

Yes, I double checked that I did the proper measured mix between the resin/hardener/blocker. And because these are sample pieces the mixing time to the pressing time is well under 5 min.

Cyber,

How did you press these samples? With clamps, a vacuum press? If with a vacuum press did you have anything between the veneer and the bag.

What ever is going on I highly doubt it has anything to do with you glue mixing or spreading.

Sincerely

Hey Darryl,

No I did put anything between the bag and the board. I was using 12" x 12" sample board. I'm sure it's not the glue. It must be something else.

Cyber,

You need a cover sheet between the bag and veneer. 1/4" masonite makes a good cover sheet. This will solve your problem.

It worked! Can you explain why 1/4 will make the difference?
