Can you tell me how to dispose of the water that I use to clean Unibond from my tools? I understand that I shouldn't be putting it down a drain or sewer, but what can I do to safely dispose of it?

Paula,

I have a couple of suggestions. First, keep a 5 gallon bucket with water in it to clean your mixing and spreading tools. This water can be used repeatedly. The solids will settle to the bottom and the alcohol and formaldehyde will flash off. At least I believe this to be true. When the water gets too dirty to use and you have let it sit a couple of days you should be able to dump the water safely. You could also do a first rinse in the bucket water and then finish off in a sink.

I have a phone call into the chemist to see what he says. I should have a qualified answer on Monday.

For myself, I rarely need to wash any tools after using Unibond 800 because I dont tend to wash up afterwards. I use a plastic container to mix in and a roller with a paint pan to spread. The catalized glue easily breaks clean from my mixing container. I let the glue build up a couple of times in my paint pan liner, then that breaks free as well. The roller I usually throw away. Hardened Unibond 800 is inert and safe to dispose off.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil

Paula,

I finally ended up talking with the chemist and he said the same thing I did. That the best way is allowing the excess mixed Unibond 800 to catalize which renders it inert. So using Unibond 800 in a way that does not require washing is the best. If you do want to wash tools with water then I recommend the bucket method I mentioned earlier.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil
