Dear Pat,Here's the formula, Frank and I both use it.3 parts water2 parts yellow or white glue1 part glycerin1 part denature alchoholBrush this mixture liberally on the veneer, then sandwich the veneer between fiberglass windowscreen with 3 or 4 layers of newspaper on top of the screen. The screen is there to preventthe newspaper from gluing to the veneer. Change the newspaper about 6 times over two daysuntil the veneer is completely dry. I do the entire process in the vacuum press but any methodthat gives enough pressure to flatten the veneer is fine. On the second day I remove the fiberglass screen since it has dried enough to prevent sticking and this gets the newspaperinto more intimate contact with the veneer. After the process is complete the veneer will stay flat for month if you keep it between a couple of sheets of cardboard, and this process just about eliminates any bleed thru since thepores are sealed. Also, as long as the veneer is properly sanded after pressing the glue in this mixture will not affect the absorbtion of stain or the finish.SincerelyDarryl Keil: frank,: I am a beginner and have purchased a piece of mahogony crotch : that is not flat. what is the procedure and materials required for : flattening it?
