I have got a 49 x 97 bag and a 2' x 5' air form bag. I am trying to veneer drums. First problem this is 16" diameter and 16" deep drum, the drum deflects so much I turn the pump off. I have cut my platten down to 1' x 4' tucked the bag under the drum as close as possible. I have folded the ba;ldder bag, I have snaked the bladder bag, even added bubble wrap, the drum still deflects too much.2nd problem, the bass drum is 22" X 18" deep the seems or suspended not laying on the platten. I did not apply vacuum looks useless to do will probably just pull the seems apart. Is their something I am doing wrong, or is it just impossible to vacuum bag drums with out buying a bag big enough to house a car in. This is a little dissapointing since I bought all of these bags to do this job. Suggestions anybody?

Mike,You're having trouble because you're trying to use the platten. We have successfully veneered drum shapes by turning part of the bag inside out through the inside of the drum. Using the bag all by itself (ideally with a strip of the plastic mesh to help the air evacuate), remove both closures. Push the drum about halfway into the bag, then push and pull the back of the bag through the middle of the drum until you have enough to reseal the back closure inside the bag. Seal the front closure, hook up the hose, and turn on the pump.I hope that's clear. The idea is that now you're clamping only the thickness of the drum cylinder, so there are no forces trying to compress or deform the cylinder. There's only pressure on the sandwich itself.I hope this helps.: I have got a 49 x 97 bag and a 2' x 5' air form bag. I am trying to : veneer drums. After I posted that I was thinking of a way to inside out the bag and trying to figure out a way to evacuate the air. I will experiment tommorrow, still seems hard to get the air out of the bag closing on itself. I wonder where I can get some kind of plastic mesh over the week end, window screen is probably to fine. Thanks for steering me in a different direction!!!!!: Mike,: You're having trouble because you're trying to use the platten.: We have successfully veneered drum shapes by turning part of the bag inside out through the inside of the drum.
