I am making 50 tops for jewelery boxes that are 6" by 8". I am veneering the maple to 1/4"baltic birch. In my test pieces I used the standard Unibond 800 catalyst and the slight bleedthrough that I had tended to discolor the maple. Do you have a white catalyst for unibondthat I can order, or how should I deal with the potential problem?I don't want to revert to White PVA because I am stacking the sheets and won't have enoughopen time.Suggestions?Regards,Ron

Ron,Darryl is out of touch until next Wednesday, and he's the one who can answer your question about white catalyst. I haven't heard of such a thing, but he may have an idea.Meanwhile, have you tried to sand and finish the test pieces? If you intend to use an oil finish, the discoloration may not be a problem. Does sanding change the situation?: I am making 50 tops for jewelery boxes that are 6" by 8". I am veneering the maple to 1/4": baltic birch. :Tom, yes sanding does reduce the discoloration somewhat at least enough that I can use a clearlacquer finish. Problem may also have been exagerated if I used too much glue on the test pieces so I'lldo another test with less glue. What prompted my question was when I ordered my Unibond 800 from you, I thought the person I talkedto said there is a light colored catalyst available for light colored veneers such as maple, birch, etc.The one I have is a medium tan in color. Ron,Well, there you go. I don't work for Darryl so I can't give you the definitive answer. You'll have to wait until next week for that. Meanwhile, try less glue, but make sure you get it clamped asap.Tom: :Tom, yes sanding does reduce the discoloration somewhat at least enough that I can use a clear: lacquer finish. Ron: There is a white Unibond catalyst. I purchased it but haven't tried it or maple veneer yet.: Ron,: Well, there you go. I don't work for Darryl so I can't give you the definitive answer.
