With 24 pieces of chestnut burl I don't want to lose sequence during flattening of 4 or 8 pieces at a time. With a bit of blue tape I numbered each leaf when they first arrived. Flattened the first four using shop mixed flattening solution and vacuum press for clamping. And there were a couple internal cracks I protected with blue tape during flattening.

After several days for drying, the blue tape was difficult to remove on the two pieces I wanted to book match, and sticky residue left behind.

Wondering what other tricks can be used to maintain sequence numbers short of a Sharpie.

I agree with Craig. Don. Were you happy with the vacuum technique for flattening?

Thanks Craig, I'll give the a try. Yes I was very happy with using vacuum press for flattening. My VacuPress 4x4 30 mil poly bag is very air tight, pump ran very little once full vacuum achieved. Much more, and more uniform, clamping pressure than using hand clamps. And really didn't take up much more room.
