Subject : splitting cauls

I will be pressing a table top half measuring 36"x26". May I split the cauls into 36"x13", keeping the gap tight in the bag? It will eliminate my having to horse around a 4'x 8' sheet of MDF.

Are you talking about the cauls that go on top of the veneer or the platen that goes underneath with the grooves in it? Sometime folks call the caul what I would call the platen. Wanted to clarify this before answering.

Thanks, I am speaking of the cauls above the pressing, not the bottom platen.

In that case, I would simply use clear packaging tape to hold the cauls tight together so there is not bump or gap between them. I've done this myself with good results as long as the seam feels smooth.
