Hi everybody,

since Unibond is no longer available in Europe I turned to PPR (plastic powder resin) from Veneer Systems, allegedly very similar to Unibond.
I was dooing kitchen cabinets with highly figured maple panels last May. http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x440/Holzfrank/P4080042.jpg The veneer was preflatened and dryed. No Problems with finishing (polyurethane laquer). Now after almost a year I´ve noticed some of the seams comming up, I was horrified considering the amount of work I´ve been putting into this projekt. I was jusing a generous amount of glue so I don´t think thats the reason.
Any suggestions what the problem could be ? Anybody using PPR ?

thank´s for your input Frank

Frank,

Its hard to know what the problem was without all the details. Often it is about too low temperature when pressing. All urea resin glues are sensitive to temps below 70 F. The PPR you got may be fine.

By the way, Unibond 800 can now be shipped anywhere in the world, for future reference.

Thanks Darryl,

The Panels were pressed about a year ago, that´s why I was baffled to see the veneer coming up after such a long time, furthermore I do not remember exactly wether I was using a heating blanket (which I usually do) Maybe it was not enough glue, but I doubt it.
It´s just that I´ve been using that particular glue the first time.
It´s good to know that Unibond is available again, never had any problem using that stuff!

Frank,

Urea resin glue does not change over time. The bond issue you are experiencing now was there when you first pressed it, it just took this long to show up. This is why I like to wipe my veneered panels with water the next day so I can find any spots that may have not glue down properly. The water swells the veneer and will show any problem areas.
