My first concern would be masonite and veneer on the outside of a vehicle.

But, be that as it may, I would use West Systems epoxy. I would then dilute the epoxy and use that as my final finish. The only way that veneer and masonite stand a chance out doors is to hermetically seal it with the finish. Front and back.

Solid pommele sapele, now that's a different story. Gilmer hardwoods

Their just one of many that sell special figure boards. their on the west coast, for the east coast see..

I agree with Craig on the adhesive although I think any of the high quality epoxys are fine, like system 3... As a finish, 1st coat anyway. It used to be that you needed a varnish with a UV inhibitor (pigment)over the epoxy. Check with west recomendations.
now a substrate. Regular masonite no good. But haven't they used masonite for house siding for decades, though my guess is, it is treated for exterior. I know that there is exterior mdf available.
I would go with marine ply if you can get the right thickness. Or somethink like polytek which is basically the base for plastic laminate.
The thickest I have seen about .045. I have also see the same stuff in .500 thickness.

My first thought would of been MRF for the substrate as well but it is not warranted for exterior use. specs are attached. MRF means moisture resistant fiberboard.

But I do agree with Mike on the Marine plywood.
