I stack the honeycomb all the time, but you do need to put some sort of skin in between the layers. Depends on what end thickness I am trying to achieve, but normally I use 1/8" mdf in between and 1/4" mdf for the outside skins. Darryl does recommend using the same thickness honeycomb in each layer. I once used 2 different thicknesses and as far as I know it has been fine, and that was I think around 3-4 years ago. But other than that I always play it safe and use the same thickness in each layer for stability purposes, as per Darryl's recommendations. So to get 2 1/2" in thickness, you would have to go 3/8" exterior skins with 2 layers of 3/4" honeycomb, separated by 1/4" mdf. That would be fairly heavy. I do go 2 5/8" quite often -- with 1/4" exterior skins, 2 layers of 1" honeycomb, and 1/8" mdf in between -- and because there's much less mdf it will be quite a bit lighter than what's possible to make 2 1/2". It is not recommended to use thinner exterior skins than 1/4" thick as the panel will sound hollow ... i.e. "cheap"
