Subject : MDF vs Baltic Birch

This is a newby question. I think it probably has been asked before here but I would like to narrow it down to just baltic birch. I am making a table top which will be supported only in the center. I am using a walnut burl veneer but I might also be using a light cherry veneer. Am I taking to much of a risk by using baltic birch or should I just use a Medex MDF?
Thanks, John

What's going to be the dimensions of the top and the area of the support, and just to confirm, the support will be in the exact middle of the top? And are you planning to veneer both sides of the top? Finally, are you going to also veneer the edges, or wrap with hardwood?

The top is 36" X 20, veneered on both sides. There is a support piece under the top that is 18" X 7". The top will be wrapped in the same wood as the veneer. Thanks

John,

I think you're fine with Baltic Birch. Its plenty stable and no voids. Clearly the Baltic will handle potential sag much better.
