Hi all,

Now that we have the vacuum table back up and running, I would like to use the correct veneer for our manufactured plywood. Right now, I'm using a three ply bending Birch or Poplar. The original material Wurlitzer used in the 20's was a two ply Poplar or Maple top and bottom. Is something like this available, lets say like you buy a sheet of plywood, or something around that size? Since this is what I would consider a commercial use, I want to make it as easy as possible to lay it up.

The three-ply wood looks ok, but it's too thick at the top and bottom. If I had a wide belt sander, I'd consider removing one layer... I've done that on a smaler scale on the small planer, but if you go through the first veneer, your knives are ruined in the glue.

Thanks for any information!

Cheers

Gary

Not sure what you're looking for, Gary. Is 1/8" plywood too thick? If it is and you're considering pressing your own, Certainly Wood and probably some of the other commercial suppliers offer thicker veneers in some species, if two or three layers of the standard 1/40"th would be too thin. If you can spec the overall thickness you need, someone may be able to point you towards a possible supplier.

Thanks Don,

I will have to disect a piece of the old stuff and measure it's veneers. I was thinking that I could buy 1/8 plywoo and just sand off the top veneer...that is, if I had a Time-Saver type machine. That is on my list of things to buy.

In any event, I will do some more hunting...

Thanks
Gary

Gary,
That's my next dream machine, well, a large drum sander that is, not a wide belt sander (too expensive for my usage). What do you plan to get?
