Has anyone pressed up teak veneer? If so, what adhesive was used and, was their any pre-press routine such as wiping down with acetone involved? I've been asked to use this on a job but know the oils in teak can create problems. I received a beautiful sample from Certainly Wood and can feel this waxy/oily texture on the surface. That has me concerned so figured I'd throw it out there to the forum. Thanks.

Steven,
Teak is known to have silica in it, which is why it's so hard on sharp tools.

Steven,

In general I do not prep teak veneer, provided it is commercially sliced veneer not resawn. I recommend either epoxy, polyurethane, or urea resin glue for teak.

I once remember gluing teak veneer with yellow glue a long time ago and it seemed to hold just fine. Probably wouldnt do it now though.

Thanks, Darryl. It sounds like Unibond is the way to go. I'm curious, you mentioned polyurethane......such as Gorilla Glue? It's hard for me to imagine pressing up veneer with a product like this, with it's foaming/expanding attributes. Actually, epoxy too...kind of gooey and messy, yes? How often do you resort to these adhesives?

Steven
