I'm cutting some images using the pad method with a Hegner jigsaw and 6/0 blades. The problem is when I assemble the separate pieces of veneer into the final picture there are gaps between some of the veneers at the jigsaw cut lines. I have tried tilting the jigsaw table at 10 degrees which doesn't seen to help. Any suggestions? I have been wondering if the saw kerf is widened by the power jig saw because of its constant cutting and this problem doesn't occurr with a sawing donkey?

not quite sure what you mean by the "pad" method - but i think it is all about the ratio of the angle of cut, the blade size and the thickness of the veneer. i use a hegenr at 7 degrees, with a 2/0 blade, with 5/64" veneers and there is no seam. somewhere i have an xel spreadsheet that somebody uploaded that gives the ratio based on the variables. let me know if you'd like it and i can search for it.

Yes, I would like to see that spreadsheet. Thanks.

The pad method is making a sandwich of the veneers you cut in the order backing veneer, veneer color 1, veneer color 2, front backing veneer. Then cut the pattern on the saw. I use a 6/0 blade 1/32" veneers from places like Constantines. 5/64 seems very thick.

Brent:
I use the pad method with a 2/0 blade on a Hawk G4 scroll saw and find the width of the saw kerf acceptable. I seldom use other than the "standard" memdium brown color urea formaldehyde adhesive.

If cutting out a number of pieces that nest, such as rose petals, it is necessary to play with spacing of the pieces to average out the gap between pieces, but the gap (and resulting glue fill) only serves to indicate the edges of the individual pieces in my experience.

I learned this method from Paul Schurch who makes eye-popping results without tilting the saw table.

Just my two cents.
