I used Unibond to glue some black dyed veneer over a curved panel, something I've done many times. I used the satinblocker also, which I have done twice. The glue turned gray and still hasn't fully set, after 18 hours in the press and 12 hours out in the open, with clamps at the corners. Temperature was always above 75. It is staying gummy.
It was a brand new bottle of glue and I thought I was very careful about the mixing ratios, but maybe I had a senior moment and screwed up. Can anyone think of anything else it could have been ?

i too had a similar problems with the most recent bottle i bought. have been using unibond for many years and lots of pressings and never any failures.
following the same procedures as always - same mixing ratios - time in the bag - heating with a blanket - i had several failures on a big project. darryl and i had a few email talks but there really was no answer. we were supposed to have a phone chat but it never happened.
i too would be interested in any thoughts of cause.
thanks, jerry

Sleuthing out the cause of glue failure usually requires a good conversation, something that I find does not happen properly through the computer. I suggest both of you give me a call so we can find the cause. 207-725-0935

Unibond 800 is made in sizable batches and is regularly tested for performance. We are not having any issues with it setting properly so let find out what's going on.

Daryl, I used the bottle of Unibond again this weekend on a lamination and a mitered box and I had no problems whatsoever. So the problem I experienced before was either "operator error" (bad mixing ratios) or the suggestion you made about chemical interference by the dyes used in the black veneer.
I'm satisfied it was one of these 2 reasons, even though I did't use the blocker this time, and this use was not in a vacuum press. When I catch up, I'll try a small panel using the black veneer and blocker again to see if the same problem happens.
Thanks for taking the time to talk to me about this problem.
