I am in process of making a tv cabinet using bandsawed veneer at about 5/64" thick. Is it necessary to edge glue the 4 5-1/2" x 64" pieces together or will the standard veneer tape be enough to hold them together while there in the bag?

Thanks,

most definetly glue the edges. tape alone will not be enough.

You might be able to use the veneer tape, once applied, as a "hinge" to hold the edges tight after applying the glue. Try to minimize the amount of glue applied, as your veneer glue might not adhere to it.

I've had good success using veneer tape to hold 1/16" thick pieces of walnut veneer together. Good jointing techniques should get you tightly fitting edges.

I do get some squeeze-through but appropriately placed tape will help keep it from spreading too much.

I kind of like the squeeze-through as it tells me those edges are, indeed, being coated...I think!
