I have to make 6 curved doors with a sketch face showing a diamond pattern, using commercial sliced veneer, probably teak. Am I asking for trouble if I use a single direction vertical veneer backing of the same species, or should I copy the face grain directions, or something in between?

Kevin,

What will be the substrate you will veneer to on these curved doors.

Sincerely

The core will be 6 layers of 1/8" poplar bending ply, total thickness about 11/16"

Kevin,

Because you are using 1/8" bending poplar, and the fact that there are six layers, you will be fine with just straight grain on the back.

Sincerely
