I would press your checkerboard to a substrate that is oversized on all four sides...don't worry about it's position.
Then cut your first edge. I would use a Festool circular saw with their edge guide, but any good circ saw used with a homemade guide that prevents tearout should work. This cut will be the most difficult, so be precise...the other cuts you can just sneak up on, so you won't have to be as careful.
Your next edge will be making a right angle to your first cut. I would use a crosscut sled at the tablesaw for this, but any method that makes a nice 90 degree cut to the blade will work - radial arm saw, miter saw (if you have enough depth), or a panel saw.
Then the remaining two edges can be cut at the tablesaw, since you have established two edges that are at a right angle.
That's how I'd do it....it's VERY tough to get a veneer skin to align PERFECTLY to a presized substrate....always press it to an oversized substrate and trim.
