Hi all

I'm starting to get really interested in attempting to form plastics for various aids around the shop. Can I use my vacuum press to form plastics?

I'd love to make some custom attachments for my circular saw etc for dust collection purposes and experiment with some simple plastic forms

If its possible whats the best way to go about this?

Can anyone recommend some web resources that may help?

Yes, you can form plastic in your vacuum press but you'll have to deal with the heating issue. Most plastics require some pretty high heat to become pliable and the bag can only take so much before deforming or melting, especially vinyl. If you use some form of a insulation sheet between the bag and your plastic you may be OK. You'll have to experiment on this one.

Go on the web and look up thermal forming. there are 15 year old kids out there making some really cool star wars storm trooper suits with home built units. You already have the pump now you will need a new set up. In stead of using the bag to form the material you will be using the material it self. it's a whole new world in vacuum. have fun !
