I am making a 45 inch round table which consists of a piece of 3/4" and a 1/2" piece of plywood glued together with Unibond 800. I will be veneering the surface with quilted maple. Do I need to veneer the underside in this case? Thanks for your reply.

I certainly wood. I'd use plain maple on the bottom. I think I'd build the core from one layer of 3/4 ply with a layer of 1/4 ply or mdf on both sides. This will yield a balanced and thus more stable structure then your 3/4, 1/2 lay up.

Agree with Jeff...

You always want to balance laminations in relation to both number of plys as well as thicknesses.

If you glue 3/4 to 1/2, you're asking for it.

Look at any kind of plywood...the thickness of plys and number of laminations are always balanced...try your best to mimic this when it comes to creating substrates, as well as the veneer skin.
