Is there a way to use a vacuum bag to edgeband round tops? I need to get an edge (1/16 veneer) onto a 48" diameter.

Seems like using a vacuum bag to do this is a tedious task. I use a nylon band clamp and glue on about 90% of the banding then hand fit the last 10% and again band clamp it. The edging I use is about 1/8 to 3/16 thick. I use Gorilla glue for this task.
Regards,
Dave

I agree with Dave, but you could elevate the top with a 3/4" disk just a smidge smaller in diameter. This lift would let the bag press evenly against the edge of your table top if you really wanted to vacuum press the edge. Never done this, but it has been described a number of times on the forum. Definitely make a trial run first.

Alec,

The big problem with vacuum bagging edging on a round top is the way vacuum grabs the entire table, edge and all, at once. If your 1/16" veneer is not dead tight against the table top in advance the bag will lock it in this position, actually preventing good contact in some places.

Sincerely
