Subject : Pedestal tables from member gallery - Questions

I am looking forward to making pedestal tables like the beautiful tables made by Craig Tufankjian and Anthony Balzar displayed in the member's gallery. I have looked everywhere for written guidance on making this caliber of table with no luck. I am comfortable with the veneering and basic construction of these tables but have questions regarding some of the fine details:
1. I am assuming the aprons are halves joined together. Are they veneered afterwards so as to hide the seems or are there seems that the photos don't reveal?
2. The trim on bottom of the aprons also seem too thick to bend around, so is the trim a single dimension piece or an "L" shaped cut from several pieces. Does that make sense?
3. Where do you aquire those beautiful brass feet and trim. If they are custom cast, does anyone know where you can have that done?
4. I am assuming those table tops are of MDF. The diameter doesn't seem too large to require a different substrate?

John,

I cant really speak for how someone else makes their furniture so I suggest you contact them directly. Anthony has his own web site www.balzerfurniture.com and Craig can be reached at www.customoneveneers.com

Sincerely
Darryl Keil

hi john.
i'l try to answer as many question as i can.

yes the substarte is mdf, 1 inch thich
the casting were custom made by p.e gruien in nyc. hang on to your wallet there are costly. the larger set was $1300.00
the aprons are solid mahogany stave sections, band clamped together into a complete circle, with a layer of 1/8 mdf over the mahogany to eliminate veneer cracking, then veneered with two ply crotch mahogany.

the trim on the apron bottoms are 3/8 thick material and they too were cnd'd in stave sections and glue and screwed in individual pieces

Craig,
Thank you very much for the info. Your work is inspirational and your info you have provided on this post as well as previous posts are invaluable. I tried a few weeks ago to contact you through your website; customoneveneer.com with no luck. Thank you again!
John
